Basic Info
Name:Dick Foley
Location:Aternaville, Canada
Bio
Character Demographics:
Fandom: He's a recurring character in the Continental Op stories by Dashiell Hammett. You could lump him and Marlowe in together under "Noir Lit" or something.
Name: Dick Foley
Age: Somewhere in his 30s
Physical Appearance: The nameless op describes him as "a boy-sized Canadian with a sharp irritable face." He is small and thin and dark. He dresses well and neatly but not conspicuously.
Education: Enough. Definitely high school, possibly college.
Occupation: Private detective, an operative in the employ of the Continental Detective Agency's San Francisco office.
Significant Other: None known.
Sexual Preference: He doesn't talk about it. The nameless op makes a point of saying that he "perfumes his handkerchiefs," which - knowing Dash Hammett - might mean he's supposed to be gay.

Character Biography:
History: He's Canadian by birth - probably from Vancouver - and has been working out of the Agency on cases throughout the Pacific Northwest long enough to have gained a reputation amongst the sort of people who would care about his reputation (other operatives, mainly; he's not the sort to get known by the criminal element).
Personality in seven words or less: Quiet. Capable. "Or less."
How Others Perceive Your Character: A lot of the time they don't. He's the Agency's shadow specialist - they say he could tail a drop of saltwater from San Francisco Bay to Puget Sound without losing sight of it or getting smoked. He's also just quiet by nature; he "saves all the words he can," if I may quote the nameless op three times in a row. These two things combine to make him very easy to overlook. (Well, that and the fact that he's short, so you can literally look over him if you're tall enough.)
Beliefs, Convictions, Morals: He'll break the law if there's a reason for it, but he draws the line at murder.
Reason(s) for Escaping to Canada: He's actually here on vacation, it's just an extended one: several years' worth of saved-up time off that he's finally being forced to take.
Their DHAs [Dreams, Hopes, and Aspirations] for Canada: Wait out his vacation and get back to work.
